The Kingdom

The Kingdom is a cinematic, largely instrumental electronic work by Romanian composer Stefan Elefteriu – a musical reflection on Britain as a civilisation shaped by continuity, myth, and engineered modernity. Inspired by a lifelong fascination with British music, culture and ideas, the album combines classical compositional techniques with a distinctive electronic sound world to create an evocative journey through some of Britain's most enduring symbols and places.

Biographies

Short biography (220 words)

Stefan Elefteriu is a Romanian composer and sound engineer whose career spans more than four decades across film scoring, pop and electronic music, and studio production. A 1980 graduate of the Bucharest Conservatory, his rigorous training in violin, piano, composition and orchestration continues to inform his work across multiple musical disciplines.

During the late 1970s and 1980s, Elefteriu played in the rock band Blitz, one of the first Communist-era Romanian ensembles to integrate synthesisers. In an era when professional electronic equipment was difficult to obtain, he built his own custom gear – including early electric violins, studio monitors and mixing consoles – in his Bucharest home studio. During the same period he also performed as a violinist with the National Opera, until the early 1990s.

Following the political changes of 1989, he founded Sound Expert Studio in 1994, which developed into one of Romania’s leading audio production facilities. Alongside original scores for feature films, documentaries and animation, Elefteriu has developed an independent catalogue of pop, fusion and electronic albums. He has earned Best Original Score awards from the Romanian Filmmakers' Union both in the feature and documentary film categories – alongside a lifetime achievement award for services to Romanian animation.

Recent works including Quantum Gates and The Kingdom reflect his longstanding interest in combining classical compositional discipline with cinematic scope and contemporary electronic sound design.
